failed to open wtmp /dev/null/wtmp: ?

any idea why i would see this:

2017-05-17 13:54:45,814 7c86a073d6ef proftpd[7] 7c86a073d6ef (172.17.0.1[172.17.0.1]): failed to open wtmp /dev/null/wtmp: No such file or directory
i can't do a put either the sftp client shows:

sftp> put README.dat
stat README.dat: No such file or directory

What OS/version are you running ProFTPD on?

and it made the issue go away :)

yes, the dockerfile build step builds from source as well

i have tried with a few different base images: centos, debian and alpine so far, but that -V option just shows moby...

currently using the alpine image since they all seem to behave similar and the alpine image is smaller...
