Subdomain With Proftpd
« on: October 23, 2016, 05:01:52 am »
Hi All,

I wonder how to set Proftpd to only accept request to subdomain.domain.tld?
Actually it accepts all requests to domain.tld.
Can this really be done in Proftpd way? or it should only be configure via a firewall?
Thanks

Well, ProFTPD accepts a TCP connection to an IP address and port.  It doesn't know what DNS name the client used to determine the IP address to which to connect.  That is, while you might use "subdomain.domain.tld" (or "domain.tld") in your FTP client, ProFTPD doesn't see either of them -- it only sees the IP address that the client uses.

So if you want ProFTPD to only accept requests to "subdomain.domain.tld", you would need to configure your DNS records such that "subdomain.domain.tld" resolves to an IP address that ProFTPD is listening on, _separate_/different from the IP address that "domain.tld" resolves to.
