2 connections per IP, second is LIST only
« on: September 30, 2007, 06:51:34 pm »
Hi,

I have a proftpd instance running on a medium internal network. I have a limit of two connections per IP set up.

If I allow more than 2 connections per IP, a**holes using download accelerators start leeching the same file with like 20 threads and this usually translates to bad download speeds for everyone and a server with two digit load numbers.

Leaving one connection per IP solves this problem, but here again many start (rightfully) whining, that another connection should be available for listing purposes and adding items to the download queue.

The simple solution of "MaxClientsPerHost 2" solves this partially, as people using the download accelerators still download the same file in two threads and that's not good.

Is there a way to make one of the two connections LIST only or rather non-GET?

Thanks,

long time user.

I have opened a feature request for this:

  http://bugs.proftpd.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2982

I suspect that this can be done without too much trouble; I will see what I can come up with this afternoon.  Please add your email address to the CC list in that bug in order to receive automatic email updates on progress on such a feature.
